J.A. Bayona’s ‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’ Gets A Grim First-Look Trailer

It’s no secret that absolutely did not care for Colin Trevorrow‘s Jurassic World. That film is one of the most heart-less re-hashing cash-grabs that I’ve ever seen and I rarely think about it.

I like Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard and I enjoy watching them get big-budget work, but Jurassic World did absolutely nothing for me and sits well below Jurassic Park III as my least-favorite of the series.

Yet I was somewhat curious to see what The Impossible director J.A. Bayona was going to do with the sequel, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. Mostly, because I heard it was going to be a “soft reboot” of The Lost World: Jurassic Park, which is my personal favorite Jurassic Park film, despite the original still being the superior film of the original trio.

Bayona promised a darker and scarier film, while also bringing back Jeff Goldblum into the mix.

Sadly, this first trailer is borderline pathetic, barely stringing together an emotional beat of cinema, despite revealing a rather large action sequence that I’m sure is going to look great on an IMAX screen.

The chemistry between Pratt/Howard is not felt and Goldblum’s tiny bit feels weightless. Yes, the color choices appear to be more dark and grim, but I’m really struggling finding the point to this one.

Why are they so worried about saving dinosaurs from extinction, when they can simply re-create them again?
